The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will not win the Grey Cup this year, but on Nov. 7, a Manitoban team did win an event with the words “Grey” and “Cup” in its title.

The Commonwealth Games are contested among countries of the Commonwealth of Nations, which are nations that were formerly part of the British Empire, and some of those countries include Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Also, Great Britain is divided into England, Scotland, Wales, and other countries in this competition. This will be the first time that India, the most populous of the Commonwealth nations, will host this event.

Llyod Axworthy made his way up to the podium to give his few minutes of speech. A speech that echoed a broken record of Academic and Athletic Excellence. Greatness, you know, that only an athlete that can give apparently. It is a speech I’ve heard from Dr Axworthy before, for instance, any and all graduations I have attended.
Wesmen receive awards for excellence

Justin Duff (Wesmen men’s volleyball) and Catie Gooch (Wesmen women’s basketball) both received awards for Athletes of the Year. They were way ahead of the running. These two athletes have pulled their teams from many possible losses, and kept everyone supported on the court. It’s a cheerful day to see hard work being paid off.

Winnipegger’s rejoice as the snow is beginning to melt but the only downfall to this fantastic news is that there are no more Wesmen sporting events happening at the Duckworth Centre. However, that is not stopping me from sharing the season with you. So get comfortable, sit back, wave your little Wesmen flag and reminisce with me.
